Success goes around!

Success breeds success:

Start the momentum of eating right, exercising, or just doing something nice for somebody and you start something that in no time at all is rolling along almost by itself. OK, ok, so it doesn't feel that way ALL the time, but I would dare say that most of the time it truly is that easy. I've been through it when it still felt so hard to make the right choices, but looking back - it wasn't hard at all. I was the only reason it was hard - I was putting "me" in the way of my success.

How do we put ourselves in the way? We listen to our mind say, "You can't do this, it's too hard", or "One bite of cake is OK, I mean you did do well most of the day" - or it's the body that talks back saying, "This is going to hurt too much, do your cardio tomorrow instead" or "I'll switch today as my rest day and do todays workout over the weekend" - does any of this sound familiar?

So how do you team up with you mind and body for the better? There are probably numerous strategies that you can employ, but what I have found to work well is "Public Accountability" - meaning basically to make it a point to let others know that you are changing your eating habits, exercise habits, share with them your goals - you'll be surprised by how many people will truly want to help you. Sure, you'll get those doubters that try to bring you down, but shake it off - the key here is that those people you talk to are going to ask you how things are going down the road, as well as they are going to be the ones checking you out next time they see you to judge for themselves if you've lost any weight, or firmed up any of those loose spots.

Take this one step further by signing up for your first 5k race, or a bike event - make it something challenging enough that you're going to have to develop a training plan to prepare for it. Invite a few people to do it with you! Before long you'll be a true success story and all your friends will be asking you for help in reaching their goals - now that is a great feeling!
